The Open Education Awards for Excellence (OEAwards) is a prestigious global recognition honoring individuals, organizations, and initiatives that contribute outstandingly to advancing open education and open knowledge. Since its launch in 2011, the OEAwards has celebrated 254 exemplary contributions, shaping global trends in equitable access to knowledge and fostering collaboration and innovation in teaching and research.

The 2025 Awards carry the theme Everything Starts With a Seed conveying the message that every initiative begins as a small idea that, when nurtured, grows into something impactful and transformative. This year’s awards feature 196 nominations from 42 countries, divided into three main categories: People in Open (individual recognition), What We Share (open resources), and How We Share (open practices).

Vietnam has four representatives among this year’s nominees. Among them, Assoc. Prof. Phan Thi Thanh Thao is nominated in the “People in Open – Leader” category. The official announcement highlights her as a pioneering leader who has initiated and led multiple key projects, including compiling Vietnam’s first open knowledge handbook, establishing an open access library, and founding an open research support fund. These efforts are particularly meaningful in a developing country like Vietnam, where awareness of open knowledge remains in its early stages.
