THADOER CONNECT: CELEBRATING UNITY AND CULTURE BETWEEN VIETNAMESE AND LAO STUDENTS
Share
Within the framework of the 2025 Vietnam–Laos International Student Cultural Exchange Program, Thanh Do University organized a rich variety of experiential activities designed to foster connections between Lao students and the wider TDD student community.
These hands-on experiences not only offered a lively and creative atmosphere but also provided opportunities for students from both countries to deepen their understanding of each other’s cultures, strengthen friendships, and celebrate the enduring ties between Vietnam and Laos.
Painting Conical Hats – From Vietnamese Symbol to Creative Expression
The conical hat has long been a familiar cultural icon of Vietnam. In the conical hat painting activity, Lao students were immersed in an artistic space that was both familiar and new. They freely expressed their creativity with colors and motifs, embedding symbolic meanings and personal messages. Some students chose to paint lotus flowers as a symbol of purity, while others incorporated the national flags of Vietnam and Laos to reflect the enduring friendship between the two nations. Many combined traditional motifs, maps, and cultural symbols from both countries, creating unique designs that highlighted cross-cultural harmony while showcasing individual creativity.

“Vietnam–Laos: Connected from the Heart” Poster Activity
The poster painting activity also received enthusiastic participation. Under the theme “Vietnam–Laos: Connected from the Heart,” students collaboratively produced vibrant, detailed posters. This activity not only demonstrated their artistic abilities and teamwork but also allowed Lao and TDD students to exchange insights about daily life, learning environments, and broader cultural and educational contexts of their respective countries.
The artworks became a visual language expressing students’ thoughts, feelings, and aspirations. Many posters were inspired by images of joined hands, interconnected hearts, or the Mekong River flowing through both nations—symbols of unity and harmony.

Sports – A Universal Language Strengthening Vietnam–Laos Friendship
Sports served as a universal language, forming an essential part of the cultural exchange experience. Volleyball matches, “Jumping Friendship” activities, yoga sessions, and teambuilding exercises energized the students and fostered collaboration. Coordinated plays, memorable goals, and moments of shared celebration became cherished memories in this colorful tapestry of experiences. Lao students noted that through sports, they felt a strong sense of teamwork, genuine friendship, and connection with their Vietnamese peers.
Teambuilding games at the TDD Edupark campus, such as sack races, relay jumps, land rowing, blindfolded can-bashing, and tug-of-war, created a lively, energetic environment. Each activity promoted teamwork, coordination, and agility, while also helping Lao students integrate quickly into the TDD learning and living community.

Academic Exchange with Vietnam Studies Students at TDD
Academic exchange sessions served as another meaningful stop in exploring life at Thanh Do University. Lao students participated in experiential classes, group discussions, presentations, and shared perspectives with TDD students. These interactions enhanced language skills, built confidence, and exposed students to modern teaching methodologies.
In addition, Lao students had opportunities to learn Vietnamese, gaining a deeper understanding and appreciation of Vietnam’s people and culture.
