The 2025 Open Education Awards for Excellence (OEAwards), organized annually by Open Education Global (OEGlobal), previously recognized two nominees from Thanh Do University across two categories. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phan Thi Thanh Thao, the University’s President, was nominated in the Open People – Leader category. In addition, the book Open Education and Open Science: A Guideline for Lecturers and Researchers, authored by four Thanh Do University staff members, Nguyen Linh Chi, Vu Nguyen Quang Duy, Phan Thi Thanh Thao, and Pham Hiep, was nominated in the Open Sharing – Guideline category of the Open Resources awards.

Out of a total of 193 nominations submitted from 42 countries, the book was honored to be shortlisted, ranking among the 16 most outstanding nominations in the Open Resources category (What We Share), after a rigorous evaluation process conducted by 31 past OEAwards winners together with members of the OEGlobal Board of Directors.

On the official 2025 OEAwards Shortlist page, the book was introduced as “the first comprehensive handbook in Vietnam on open education and open science, making it an essential resource for learning and practicing open knowledge. The book has helped foster nationwide discussions on the open movement through workshops and training sessions, and has been integrated into university curricula, becoming a foundational tool in shaping open knowledge education.”

Although it was not included in the final list of winners announced on October 17, being shortlisted is already a clear testament to the influence and academic quality of the book. Notably, it was the only nomination from Vietnam to reach the shortlist among four Vietnamese representatives featured in the initial nomination list.
