ADMISSION TO THE DOCTORAL PROGRAM IN ECONOMIC MANAGEMENT FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS (FIRST INTAKE - 2026)

Thanh Do University has achieved the QS Stars 4-Star international education quality rating and meets the Vietnamese National Education Quality Standards.

The University hereby announces admissions to the Doctoral Program in Economic Management for international students for the first intake of 2026 as follows:

1. Program Overview

Standard program duration:

  • 3 years (36 months) for applicants holding a Master’s degree;
  • 4 years (48 months) for applicants holding a Bachelor’s degree with an “Excellent” classification or higher.

Study mode: Full-time (on campus)

Language of instruction: Vietnamese

Dissertation defense: To be conducted in Vietnamese or another approved foreign language.

2. Eligibility and Admission Requirements

Applicants for the doctoral program must meet the following requirements:

2.1 Eligibility: Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree with an Excellent classification or higher, or a Master’s degree in the same or a related field relevant to the doctoral program in Economic Management.

The list of relevant majors is provided in Appendix I

2.2 Research Experience: Applicants must demonstrate research experience through one of the following:

  • A Master’s thesis from a research-oriented Master’s program; or
  • Published scientific articles or conference papers; or
  • At least two years (24 months) of professional experience as a lecturer or researcher at a higher education or scientific institution.

2.3 Research Proposal and Study Plan: Applicants must submit a draft research proposal and a proposed study and research plan, which must include:

  • A research orientation essay clarifying the rationale for the chosen research direction, research objectives and scope, the applicant’s research capacity and experience, and the reasons for choosing the training institution;
  • A preliminary outline of the research proposal, presenting the main research components.
  • A proposed study and research plan, which must be prepared in accordance with the Doctoral training program in Economic Management issued by Thanh Do University.

2.4 Letter of Recommendation: Applicants must provide one letter of recommendation from a scholar who is:

a Professor OR Associate Professor, OR a holder of a Doctor of Science or PhD degree, AND who has collaborated professionally with the applicant and possesses expertise in the field in which the applicant intends to conduct research.

The letter must include an evaluation of the applicant’s academic integrity and research capability.

2.5 Additional Requirements:

2.5.1 Vietnamese Language Proficiency

Applicants must demonstrate sufficient Vietnamese language proficiency for study and research by meeting one of the following  criteria:

  • Possession of a Vietnamese language proficiency certificate at Level 4 or higher according to the Vietnamese Language Proficiency Framework for Foreigners, issued within the last two years by institutions authorized by the Ministry of Education and Training (see Appendix II); or
  • Possession of a Bachelor’s degree or higher in Vietnamese Studies, or a degree from a program where Vietnamese was the primary language of instruction.

2.5.2 Health Requirement

Applicants must be certified as physically fit for study and research by a competent medical authority.

2.5.3 Legal Background

Applicants must have a clean personal background, must not be serving a criminal sentence, and must not violate the laws of Vietnam or the laws of their country of residence.

2.6 Nomination for Doctoral Admission: Applicants may be nominated for doctoral admission.

For foreign applicants, nominations may be provided by a human resource management authority, a higher education institution (Bachelor’s or Master’s level), or the embassy of their home country.

3. Application Documents 

3.1 Application dossier submitted to the Admission Office with one set of documents (one copy for each item), arranged in the following order:

3.1.1 Application Form for Doctoral Admission

3.1.2 Notarized Copies of the Following Diplomas and Certificates

  • Bachelor’s degree and transcript
  • Master’s degree and transcript (not required for applicants applying from the Bachelor’s level)
  • Proof of Vietnamese language proficiency as specified in Section 2.5.1

Note: Degrees and academic transcripts issued by foreign institutions must be recognized by the Vietnam Education Quality Management Agency, Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam.

3.1.3 Original Letter of Recommendation as specified in Section 2.4.

3.1.4 Official Nomination Letter as specified in Section 2.6.

3.1.5 Original Draft Research Proposal as specified in Section 2.3.

3.1.6 Copies of Scientific Publications or Conference Papers

Note: each publication must include copies of:

1. the cover page of the journal or conference proceedings,

2. the table of contents, and

3. the full article.

If the number of publications exceeds the minimum requirement in Section 2.2, the applicant must compile them into a separate file arranged according to the list provided on the cover page. The file should clearly distinguish between the publication used for official evaluation (one article or conference paper), and additional publications for bonus evaluation.

3.1.7 One 3×4 cm photograph with a white background, with the applicant’s full name and date of birth written on the back.

3.1.8 Medical Certificate issued by a competent medical institution in Vietnam confirming that the applicant is physically fit for study and research.

(The certificate must be issued within six months prior to the application submission date.)

3.1.9 A copy of a valid passport covering the entire study period in Vietnam, or at least one year from the expected date of entry into Vietnam.

3.2 Documents for the Admission Subcommittee

Applicants must prepare six sets of documents for the academic admission subcommittee.

Each set must include copies of the following documents arranged in order:

  • Copies of diplomas and certificates specified in Section 3.1.2
  • Copy of the letter of recommendation specified in Section 3.1.3
  • Copy of the research proposal specified in Section 3.1.5
  • Copies of scientific publications or conference papers specified in Section 3.1.6

4. Admission Method and Quota

  • Selection method: The admission subcommittees will evaluate applicants based on a comprehensive review of their application dossier, a formal research proposal presentation, and an oral examination (Q&A) conducted by the committee members.
  • The evaluation will be conducted using a 100-point scale.
  • Admission quota (tentative): 10 candidates.

5. Application Timeline

  • Submission period: March 03, 2026 – April 30, 2026
  • Admission evaluation (expected): May 08, 2026
  • Announcement of admission results (expected): May 22, 2026
  • Enrollment date (expected): May 30, 2026

6. Application Fee and Tuition

  • Application evaluation fee: 2,100,000 VND per applicant
  • Application form: Free of charge

Tuition scholarship policy: The University will award 10 full scholarships covering 100% of the tuition for the entire program for admitted students.
