In a significant announcement for regional higher education, AppliedHE officially published its 2026 Public & Private University Ranking for the ASEAN region in late November. The ranking reflects the performance of 115 public and 122 private universities across ASEAN countries.

Amidst rising competition among private institutions, Thanh Do University distinguished itself by securing the 44th position among the 122 ranked private universities. This placement also establishes Thanh Do as the 4th highest-ranked private university among the seven Vietnamese private institutions featured this year.

AppliedHE, a Singapore-based evaluation organization established in 2021, aims to provide an independent, objective standard for students, parents, and educational administrators. The integrity of the ranking process, including quality control, is overseen by the AppliedHE Ranking Advisory Board, currently chaired by Prof. Kevin Downing, Secretary of the Council and Court at City University of Hong Kong.

The 2026 edition marks the third publication of the rankings, showcasing continued expansion from the 2025 edition, which featured 100 public and 100 private universities. This growth underscores the increasing interest among regional universities in AppliedHE's independent and transparent evaluation system.

The AppliedHE rankings are compiled from various data sources, including institutional submissions, student and institutional surveys, Google Scholar publication data, and other pertinent information.

The methodology employs distinct rankings for public and private universities and prioritizes practical outcomes over traditional metrics, offering a more comprehensive and equitable assessment of institutional performance in the evolving higher education landscape. This approach enables institutions to gauge their standing relative to learner needs and regional labor market demands.

Specifically, private universities are evaluated across six key areas: Teaching and Learning, Employability, Research, Community Engagement, Internationalization, and Institutional Reputation. These factors collectively reflect the quality of applied education, graduate career readiness, and institutional impact.

Thanh Do University's inclusion in the 2026 AppliedHE Ranking is a significant achievement, underscoring the university's sustained efforts in curriculum innovation, teaching quality, and international collaboration, thereby enhancing its regional reputation.
