On July 24, 2026, the Rector of Thanh Do University signed Decision No. 255/QD-DHTD, upgrading the Reduvation Educational Innovation Research Group into a Flagship Research Group under the Institute for Research on Educational and Knowledge Transfer, in accordance with the new standards stipulated in Decree No. 125/2026/ND-CP dated April 6, 2026. This marks an important milestone in recognizing the group’s achievements during the 2020 - 2025 period, while opening a new stage of development toward greater professionalism, interdisciplinarity, and international integration.

The Reduvation Research Group was established under Decision No. 220/QD-DHTD on August 28, 2020, issued by the Rector of Thanh Do University. The group later served as the foundation for the establishment of the Institute for Research on Educational and Knowledge Transfer.

At its establishment, Reduvation had seven members-four from Thanh Do University and three external members-led by Dr. Phan Thi Thanh Thao and Dr. Pham Hung Hiep. The team brought together researchers, lecturers, and students at different levels, reflecting its commitment to integrating research with training and developing the next generation of researchers.

Since its establishment, Reduvation has pursued two complementary goals: conducting research for national and international publication, and providing evidence to support innovation in governance, teaching and learning, international cooperation, and knowledge transfer at Thanh Do University.

From its establishment to August 2026, the Reduvation Research Group has published 23 international works indexed in Scopus and Web of Science–ISI, 14 articles in reputable Vietnamese journals, and four chapters in international scholarly books. In addition, Reduvation has been highly active in compiling and publishing scholarly books on research methodology and educational sciences, with seven books published to date. The group is currently implementing two national-level research projects funded by the National Foundation for Science and Technology Development (NAFOSTED).

These achievements reflect Reduvation’s steady growth, from academic publishing to research training, collaborative networks, and the application of research in educational practice.

Building a More Interdisciplinary and International Research Team

Under Decision No. 255/QD-DHTD, the Reduvation Flagship Research Group on Educational Innovation comprises 23 members, with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phan Thi Thanh Thao and Dr. Pham Hung Hiep continue to serve as co-leaders. The group includes eight full-time members and 15 affiliated members. In terms of academic qualifications, nine members hold doctoral degrees, including two professors, two associate professors, and five PhD holders; nine members hold master’s degrees; and five hold bachelor’s degrees.

The expanded Reduvation team represents a wide range of disciplinary expertise, including education, psychology, educational management, business administration, international studies, sustainability science, climate change and development, information systems, political science, international relations, and educational measurement and evaluation.

In addition to members from Thanh Do University and the Institute for Research on Educational and Knowledge Transfer, the group includes researchers, lecturers, and doctoral candidates from a range of educational and research institutions in Vietnam and abroad, including the Vietnam Journal of Education under the Ministry of Education and Training, the University of Education – Vietnam National University, Hanoi, the Vietnam National Institute of Educational Sciences, Phenikaa University, Deakin University (Australia), the Australian National University (Australia), Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (Malaysia), University College Dublin (Ireland), and Hiroshima University (Japan).

The expansion from seven to 23 members strengthens Reduvation’s interdisciplinary research capacity, connects researchers at different stages of their academic careers, and creates additional opportunities for doctoral candidates and master’s students to participate in research projects and academic publishing.

Responding to the New Policy Framework for Flagship Research Groups

The upgrading of Reduvation took place in the context of the Government’s issuance of Decree No. 125/2026/ND-CP dated April 6, 2026, which regulates science, technology, and innovation activities in higher education institutions. The Decree establishes a new legal framework for the development, recognition, and advancement of potential research groups and flagship research groups within higher education institutions.

According to Article 6 of the Decree, a flagship research group must have at least five members, including at least four key members. The group leader must be a highly qualified scientist with academic reputation and influence at the regional or international level, as well as the capacity to provide academic leadership, bring together researchers, and organize the implementation of long-term research directions. The development of such groups should aim to generate outputs of academic value or commercialization potential, develop high-quality human resources, and promote collaboration among universities, science and technology organizations, and domestic and international enterprises.

Flagship research groups may be given priority in participating in national-level science and technology tasks, interdisciplinary research, and international collaborative projects. Higher education institutions may also allocate funding, working space, and research facilities to these groups within the limits of their available resources and institutional autonomy. Group leaders and key members who are lecturers may also be considered for reductions in their standard teaching workloads to enable greater concentration on research activities.

Reduvation group will continue to focus on educational innovation, higher education governance and policy, digital transformation, internationalization, teaching and learning, learner development, and the application of research findings in practice.

Beyond producing high-quality publications, the group aims to build an inclusive research environment for academics and students, support early-career researchers, and expand national and international collaboration in line with Thanh Do University’s internationalization strategy. 

Its upgrade to a Flagship Research Group marks Reduvation’s transition from a collaborative network to a more formal and sustainable research structure, strengthening Thanh Do University’s capacity in science, technology, and innovation and contributing to Vietnam’s educational research ecosystem.
