Thanh Do University recently held a seminar titled “Chinese Language – A Bridge in the Era of Globalization”, providing valuable and up-to-date insights for students, lecturers, and researchers in the field of Chinese language studies, as well as those interested in economics, culture, and communication with the “billion-people nation.”
Opening the seminar, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dao Thi Ai Thi, Vice President of Thanh Do University, emphasized:
“Language and culture are bridges that connect people—they form the foundation for every individual to integrate deeply into the era of globalization.”
She also affirmed that learning foreign languages, especially Chinese, not only broadens future career opportunities but also promotes international cooperation and cross-cultural exchange in various fields.
In an open and inspiring atmosphere, Dr. Phan Thi Tra My, President of the Vietnamese Business Association in China and lecturer in Chinese Language at the Institute of Management and Technology provided students with unique perspectives and addressed essential questions such as “Why is language a bridge in the globalized era?” and “How to study Chinese effectively in the digital transformation age.”

Dr. Phan Thi Tra My delivered an in-depth presentation on the seminar’s main theme
Dr. Phan Thi Tra My highlighted that Chinese is one of the most influential languages in the world, with over 1.4 billion native speakers and more than 200 million learners globally. Mastering Chinese opens doors to attractive international career opportunities and enables learners to adapt easily in multicultural work environments. Particularly, proficiency in both Chinese and English gives students a competitive edge, granting them confidence and access to global labor markets.
Language, as she noted, is not merely a communication tool but a gateway to understanding the economy, politics, society, culture, and history of a nation. With a legacy spanning over 5,000 years, Chinese embodies the intellectual and cultural essence of Chinese civilization. Given the strategic partnership between Vietnam and China as neighboring nations, studying Chinese holds practical significance. A deep understanding of the language enhances awareness of socio-economic trends and fosters sustainable cooperation between the two countries in the era of globalization.

Students from the Chinese Language Department actively participated in discussions with the speaker
Thanh Do University currently offers two specialized tracks in Chinese Language: Business Chinese and Technological Chinese, aligning with workforce needs in the context of digital transformation and global integration.
The Q&A session brought further excitement, focusing on career opportunities in Chinese language-related fields. Dr. Phan Thi Tra My emphasized that fluency in Chinese serves as a “career passport” to diverse industries such as trade, translation, tourism, logistics, international relations, media, and education. This advantage is amplified by Thanh Do University’s application-oriented training programs closely linked with business practice.
The seminar also introduced effective language-learning strategies, including immersion in real-life contexts, interaction with native speakers, participation in summer camps and exchange programs, and learning through films, music, and digital tools. Dr. My particularly stressed the importance of “learning how to learn”, developing critical thinking, adaptability, and problem-solving skills, core competencies the university strives to instill in its students.
Ultimately, the seminar served as a platform for students to broaden their perspectives and deepen their understanding of the Chinese language’s role in globalization, where language transcends communication, it becomes a bridge connecting knowledge, culture, and boundless career opportunities.
