Thanh Do University recently organized a workshop focused on skills for searching, exploiting, and updating open educational resources (OER) on the OESR platform, sharing practical experience in utilizing resources from the Open Educational Science

Open educational resources have become a key trend in modern education, enabling learners to access vast knowledge anytime and anywhere. Applying OER models helps bridge knowledge gaps, enhance resource sharing, optimize training efficiency, and foster flexible, progressive learning environments. The initiative also supports building a modern, transparent, and sustainable digital education ecosystem.

The workshop aimed to equip faculty and administrative staff with skills to effectively search, exploit, and manage OER content on the OESR platform. Participants learned about standardized cataloging, updating resources, and applying metadata to ensure accessibility and quality for teaching and research purposes.

The session began with an overview of the OESR platform, explaining its operation, structure, and significance in managing digital educational materials. Attendees gained foundational knowledge on the role of digital data in higher education, particularly for storing, sharing, and updating learning resources.

The OESR library at Thanh Do University serves as a comprehensive digital knowledge portal, integrating both closed and open educational resources. It hosts teaching materials, research outputs from faculty, and curated open resources from reputable systems, providing a modern and accessible academic environment for teaching, research, and professional development.

Dr. Pham Hung Hiep, Director of the REK Institute, provided a detailed introduction to the OESR system

A core component of the workshop involved practical guidance on advanced search techniques, data filtering, keyword selection, and using specialized search operators, enabling participants to develop systematic and scientific search skills. Faculty and staff also practiced retrieving resources by topic, format, and metadata standards, enhancing their ability to select and evaluate high-quality sources.

Another key session focused on standardizing and uploading resources to OESR. Participants learned proper cataloging procedures, including titling, keyword assignment, content classification, academic description, and metadata formatting. This process ensures the scientific validity, transparency, and long-term accessibility of educational resources on the platform.

The workshop also shared practical insights into managing digital repositories, reviewing content, and encouraging faculty participation. Challenges such as copyright, source reliability, metadata consistency, and internal resource management were addressed, providing participants with practical strategies to apply in their teaching and research.

In a final discussion, participants raised questions about copyright, metadata standards, approval workflows, and handling real-world issues in using OER, which experts answered with practical examples.

Active Knowledge Sharing at the OESR Platform Workshop

Through workshops like this, Thanh Do University continues to enhance faculty and staff competencies in accessing and exploiting digital knowledge. The university is committed to building an open, creative, and sustainable learning environment where resources can be stored, shared, utilized, and reused for teaching, research, and development. Developing a standardized internal OER repository represents a strategic step toward realizing the university’s vision of open education and open science in the digital era.
