Private University Ranking: ASEAN (Private University Ranking: ASEAN) of AppliedHE is the first ranking exclusively for private universities in Southeast Asia. First launched in 2022, the ranking highlights teaching and learning quality, employability, and research, as well as the level of community involvement, internationalization, and reputation of private higher education institutions.
Private universities have always played an important role in increasing access to higher education in the region, providing innovative learning methods, and improving graduate employability. Discussing the need for private university rankings, AppliedHE Ratings Advisory Board Chairman and City University Council and Court Secretary, Dr. Kevin Downing commented that: “Private universities are different from public universities, and the strengths of private universities are not reflected in the existing university rankings. The AppliedHE Private University Rankings is, therefore, a welcome addition to the Asian and global ranking landscape.”
In the Private University Ranking: ASEAN+ 2023 announced at an online event at 4 pm (Vietnam time) on February 23, Thanh Do University entered the ranking for the first time with 19th place out of 24 institutions participating in the ranking. Along with Duy Tan University, Thanh Do University is the second representative of Vietnam in this ranking. This year, the ranking includes several establishments from countries that are broader than Asia Pacific, not just Southeast Asia.
Among the 6 evaluation categories of the ranking, Thanh Do University entered the top 10 in two categories including Teaching & Learning and Employability of students after graduation (Employability). In particular, Chengdu University ranked 5th in the category of Teaching & Learning, the most important category accounting for 40% of the final ranking results.

In the remaining categories, including Research, Community Engagement, Internationalization, and Institutional Reputation, Thanh Do University ranked 24th, 22nd, 24th, and 18th respectively.
The data used to rank is collected from AppliedHE’s Student Survey, data collected by the institution, and data from Google Scholar and Google News. To ensure data validity, all data submitted by the organization has been sampled at intervals and all survey data is screened using AppliedHE’s proprietary verification process.
Participation in the Private University Ranking: ASEAN demonstrates Thanh Do University’s determination to improve its quality, reputation, and rise to globalization and once again affirms its position as a prestigious private university with application orientation. In addition, the results provided by the rankings are also valuable and useful data to help Thanh Do University re-review the strengths and areas that still need to be improved, as a springboard for further development in the future.
