On the afternoon of August 28, 2025, Thanh Do University successfully hosted the volunteer program toward ASEAN – introducing and experiencing Chinese culture under the theme “Vietnam – China Cultural Colors”, as part of the university’s ASEAN-focused volunteer activities.
Representing Guangxi University for Nationalities, China, the program welcomed Dr. Dao Thi Viet Trinh – former President of the Guangxi University for Nationalities International Students Association and current President of the Vietnamese International Students Association, along with members of the student association’s executive committee. On the Thanh Do University side, participants included Dr. Nguyen Thuy Van – Vice Rector, Dr. Ngo Thi Anh Tuyet – Director of the International Training Center, MA. PhD Candidate Bui Duc Thinh – Deputy Head in charge of the Training Department, MA. Dinh Thi Thanh Huyen – Head of the GenNext Skills and Development Center, and other faculty representatives from various departments and centers.
The event also saw enthusiastic participation from Thanh Do University students, international students from Guangxi University for Nationalities, and high school and university students from Vietnam who are passionate about the Chinese language and culture.
The atmosphere was formal yet warm and friendly, creating a bridge for connection, exchange, and mutual learning between students of the two countries
A Unique Cultural Experience
The highlight of the event was the traditional Chinese paper-cutting art workshop – recognized as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2009. Students eagerly participated in creating motifs such as creative patterns, the Chinese characters Fu (Happiness) and Xi (Joy), fish, and pomegranates – symbols representing luck, happiness, and prosperity in Chinese culture.
This hands-on activity not only introduced students to an artistic craft but also helped them gain a deeper understanding of Chinese aesthetic thinking, spiritual values, and long-standing cultural beauty. It also encouraged creativity, dexterity, patience, and recognition of the intersection between traditional and modern culture in today’s life.
Particularly, students majoring in Chinese Language at Thanh Do University confidently demonstrated their language skills during the exchange. Their fluent and natural interactions not only reflected solid foreign language proficiency but also showcased the students’ readiness for international integration, leaving a strong positive impression on the visiting Chinese students.
In addition, the cultural performances featuring music and dance highlighted the vibrant and youthful spirit of both countries, strengthening the bonds of friendship. Music, language, and traditional dances served as bridges to help students from both nations better understand and appreciate each other’s cultural heritage.
Recognition and Promotion of Values
At the conclusion of the program, the Organizing Committee awarded certificates and prizes to outstanding students as a recognition and encouragement of their enthusiasm, creativity, and active participation.
The “Vietnam – China Cultural Colors” event served as a cultural bridge, fostering stronger friendship ties and encouraging students to proactively integrate, learn, and develop themselves in an international environment.
Although the program concluded, its impact continues to resonate – celebrating the joy of connection, borderless friendship, and the youth’s aspiration for global integration.
