Scientific research is one of the useful and essential activities at the university to improve professional qualifications and skills as well as develop skills for the staff and lecturers. Teaching and research are two parallel activities, supporting each other in the training program for staff and lecturers of the University.
Guidance on the use of tools to support scientific research is important in completing research papers and articles published in international journals. Using tools to support scientific research will make the research process easier and more effective. Some tools help organize and manage research data, make it simpler and faster to analyze and evaluate data, and complete studies accurately and efficiently. Leading the content of the Seminar is Dr. Pham Hung Hiep – Permanent Vice President and MSc. Nguyen Linh Chi – Researcher at the Institute for Research and Knowledge Transfer.
The contents in turn are analyzed in detail and at the same time practiced each part, each item, directly applied to the articles and research papers of the staff and lecturers themselves.
The seminar “Instructions on the Use of Tools to support scientific research” provides important knowledge and skills in using tools to support scientific research, focusing on analyzing and practicing 3 main tools:
Firstly, create an account on Google Scholar, which is a useful approach to finding and keeping track of the latest research in the field. After creating an account, staff and lecturers can search for scientific documents from journals, academic websites, conference papers, references, and articles by researchers around the world. These documents are arranged in order of priority based on features and relevance to search keywords.
Creating an account on Google Scholar also allows you to follow your favorite authors and receive notifications about their latest works. Accordingly, it is possible to create a list of favorite documents and share them with colleagues or people interested in the same research area.
Creating an account on Google Scholar helps build a reputation and increases your chances of being cited in other scientific papers. Documents found on Google Scholar are often used as part of other research papers and conference papers, therefore, having many citations from one’s literature can significantly increase the reputation and credibility of researchers.
Secondly, regarding the Plagiarism Checker application, Thanh Do University uses an official account to ensure that it checks articles, research papers, projects, theses, and theses in the School. Turnitin is a text similarity analysis tool used to detect duplicate content in articles, reports, theses, journals, and other documents. The use of Turnitin in scientific research is important to ensure the truthfulness and reliability of research results.
MSc. Nguyen Linh Chi also mentioned copyright protection for authors and research materials through the Turnitin tool. When documents are submitted to Turnitin, the tool compares the text in the document with documents already stored in its database. If it is found that any content in the document has been copied from another source, the user can detect the cause and remove the copied text to avoid copyright infringement.
Finally, the last tool mentioned in the Seminar is Mendeley – a citation, document management, and bibliography application widely used in the scientific research community. This application allows users to manage their documents, from storing, organizing, searching, and sharing references, and also assist in the writing of reports, theses, research papers, and scientific papers.
Using Mendeley in scientific research saves time, by organizing, storing, and managing documents, finding and accessing references becomes fast and easy.
Along with that, Mendeley helps ensure the accuracy and effectiveness of references. Input documents will be automatically marked with important information such as the author’s name, the title of the article, the title of the journal, and the year of publication, ensuring that the materials referenced in articles, reports, or abstracts are accurate.
Instruction on the use of tools to support scientific research will help strengthen the skills of staff and lecturers, especially for students who are just starting to enter the field of scientific research. The use of these tools helps to master the necessary skills in the research process, thereby helping to approach and carry out research projects professionally and effectively. Improving the quality of research work, and supporting tools to help evaluate data more accurately and scientifically, thereby ensuring the correctness and relevance of the research. Moreover, the use of supporting tools also enhances uniformity and transparency in the research process, helping the research results to be properly evaluated and confirmed with a high degree of confidence.
Listening to practical content shared by experts from the Institute of Research and Knowledge Transfer and directly practice, the faculty and staff of Thanh Do University have more useful knowledge and skills to apply practically in scientific research, further improving both the quality and quantity of articles published in international journals and research articles.
