Special Issue: ‘Understanding the contemporary foreign human flow to Vietnam and its impact’

International students, tourists, temporary workers, and digital nomads are all included in the rising but little-studied phenomena of transitory migration to Vietnam, which is examined in this special issue of Transitions: Journal of Transient Migration. Although Vietnam has historically seen a high rate of emigration, current patterns show that more foreigners are coming to the country for employment, education, and travel. This special issue looks at how these temporary migrants’ experiences, motives, and patterns of mobility are shaped by economic, policy, and technological changes. It also looks at the socioeconomic and cultural effects these migrants have on Vietnamese communities, the job market, and the educational system. In order to better comprehend Vietnam’s changing role as a destination for short-term international mobility, scholars are encouraged to submit interdisciplinary perspectives that address issues like adaptation, integration, and policy consequences.

Specifically, this special issue seeks to invite scholars from Vietnam and other countries to submit their manuscripts, focusing on the following key research questions:

  • What is the current state of contemporary foreign human flow to Vietnam?
  • How do contemporary foreigners in Vietnam adapt and interact with local Vietnamese people, and what impact do they have on Vietnamese society and communities?

The studies submitted to this special issue may examine a wide range of participants, including but not limited to:

  • International workers, including both blue- and white-collar professionals
  • International immigrants and sojourners
  • International tourists
  • International students and faculty members

Additionally, this special issue aims to further explore the transitions and transformations experienced by local Vietnamese individuals during their interaction with foreigners and international migrants.
