Thanh Do University is ranked among the top ASEAN application-oriented universities (ASEAN 2024: AppliedHE). The university meets national education quality standards and has achieved a Three-Star rating for application-oriented training quality in the ASEAN university ranking (UPM).

Thanh Do University announces doctoral program admissions for 2025 with the following details:

  1. Training Duration and Mode
  • Training duration is determined in the decision to recognize doctoral candidates and their full-course study and research plan. Applicable as follows:
    • Doctoral candidates with a Master’s degree: 3 years (36 months).
    • Doctoral candidates with a Bachelor’s degree (graduated with Excellent grade or higher): 4 years (48 months).
  • Training mode: Full-time.
  1. Admission Targets and Requirements

Doctoral program applicants must meet the following conditions:

2.1. Have a Bachelor’s degree with excellent grades or a Master’s degree in a major that is the same or relevant to the doctoral program.

  • The list of majors that are the same or relevant to Economic Management is specified in Appendix 01.

2.2. Have research experience demonstrated through a Master’s thesis from a research-oriented program; or published scientific articles or reports; or have at least 02 years (24 months) of work experience as a lecturer or researcher at training institutions, scientific and technological organizations;

2.3. Have a draft research proposal and a proposed full-course study and research plan.

  • The draft research proposal includes a research orientation essay (clarifying the reasons for choosing the research direction, objectives and scope of the research direction, research capabilities and experience, reasons for choosing the training institution, etc.) and a draft outline of the research contents.
  • The proposed full-course study and research plan is based on the issued doctoral program in Economic Management of Thanh Do University.

2.4. Have a letter of recommendation from 01 scientist with the title of professor, associate professor, or with a doctoral degree in science, doctorate, who has participated in professional activities with the applicant and is knowledgeable in the applicant’s intended research field (commenting on ethics and research capabilities).

2.5. Have a diploma or certificate proving foreign language proficiency, specifically as follows:

2.5.1. Vietnamese citizens must meet foreign language proficiency requirements, demonstrated by one of the following diplomas or certificates:

    • A Bachelor’s degree or higher issued by a foreign training institution, a branch of a foreign training institution in Vietnam, or a Vietnamese training institution 1 for full-time students in a foreign language;  
    • A Bachelor’s degree in a foreign language issued by Vietnamese training institutions;
    • Have one of the foreign language certificates as prescribed by the Ministry of Education and Training, valid until the date of application, or other equivalent foreign language certificates at level 4 (according to the 6-level foreign language framework for Vietnam) announced by the Ministry of Education and Training. (Appendix 02).

2.5.2. Foreign citizens applying for a doctoral program in Vietnamese must have a Vietnamese language certificate of at least level 4 according to the Vietnamese Language Proficiency Framework for Foreigners and must 1 meet the second foreign language requirement decided by the University, except for native speakers of the language used in the doctoral program.

2.6. Be nominated for doctoral training by the personnel management agency (for employed individuals) or the training institution (where the student recently graduated); or have personal identification confirmed by the local authorities where they reside (for self-employed individuals). Foreign citizens may be nominated by the personnel management agency, university/master’s level training institution, or the embassy of their country of citizenship.

  1. Doctoral Application Documents

3.1. A set of documents to be kept at the Admissions Center Office, one copy of each, arranged in the following order:

3.1.1. Application form with confirmation from the nominating agency as specified in section 2.6 (with photo attached and overlapping seal). Download the template Curriculum vitae.

3.1.2. Notarized copies of the following diplomas and certificates:

  • Bachelor’s degree and academic transcript
  • Master’s degree and academic transcript (not required for applicants with a Bachelor’s degree)
  • Copy of proof of foreign language proficiency as stated in section 2.5.

Bachelor’s and Master’s diplomas and academic transcripts issued by foreign training institutions must be notarized and translated into Vietnamese and submitted with a notarized copy of the Diploma Recognition from the Department of Quality Management, Ministry of Education and Training.

3.1.3. Original letter of recommendation as stated in section 2.4. Download the reference letter template

3.1.4. Official letter of nomination for admission from the direct management agency according to current regulations on training and fostering civil servants and public employees (if the applicant is a civil servant or public employee). Download the official nomination letter template

3.1.5. Original draft research proposal of the applicant as stated in section 2.3. Download the draft research proposal template

3.1.6. Copy(ies) of the applicant’s published articles or scientific reports.

Note:

    • Each article or scientific report must include a photocopy of the cover page (journal or conference/scientific seminar proceedings), table of contents, and the article’s content.
    • If the number of articles or scientific reports exceeds the requirement in section 2.2, the applicant must compile them into a collection and arrange them according to the list of items on the cover page, clearly separating the scoring section as required (1 article or scientific report) and the bonus scoring section (the remaining articles).

3.1.7. 3×4 photo, white background, clearly stating the applicant’s full name and date of birth on the back of the photo.

3.2. A set of documents to be sent to the Specialized Selection Sub-committee, divided into 06 sets, each set comprising one copy of each type of document and arranged in the following order:

  • A copy of all diplomas and certificates (copies of the documents in section 3.1.2)
  • A copy of the letter of recommendation (a copy of the letter of recommendation in section 3.1.3)
  • A copy of the draft research proposal (a copy of the draft proposal in section 3.1.5)
  • A copy of the article(s) or scientific report(s) (as instructed in section 3.1.6)
  1. Admission Method and Quota:
  • Admission method: The Selection Sub-committees will evaluate and classify candidates through their application dossiers, research proposal presentations, and answers to questions posed by the members of the doctoral candidate Selection Sub-committee, using a 100-point scale.
  • Admission quota (tentative): 10
  1. Application Submission, Selection, Admission Result Announcement, and Enrollment Schedule:
  • Application submission: From the date of this announcement until the scheduled selection date for each round.

  1. Application Fee and Tuition:
  • Application fee: 2,100,000 VND/application;
  • Tuition fee: 1,500,000 VND/credit.
  • Tuition fee exemption and reduction policy: The university has tuition fee exemption and reduction policies for doctoral candidates in each round (Details on the website: www.thanhdo.edu.vn).
