On the occasion of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day (June 21), the Journal’s strong development not only affirms a modern model of academic publishing but also vividly embodies its mission: serving knowledge – creating value – spreading scholarship. From pioneering the application of artificial intelligence (AI), developing a journal management system aligned with international standards, to embracing principles of open, transparent, and equitable publishing, the Journal is striving to become a new symbol of scientific integrity and vitality in the digital transformation era.
A rare hallmark in the Vietnamese private higher education system
In less than two years since its establishment, the Journal of Scientific Research and Development of Thanh Do University has quickly emerged as a prominent highlight within the national academic community. In 2023 and 2024, the Journal consistently gained recognition for publishing articles across diverse fields, reflecting growing acknowledgment and appreciation from experts.
In 2023, the Journal of Scientific Research and Development was officially recognized by the State Council of Professors for History – Archaeology – Ethnology/Anthropology. Following that, under Decision No. 25/QĐ-HĐGSNN dated July 5, 2024, the Journal continued to be evaluated and scored by four additional Professor Councils in the fields of History – Archaeology – Ethnology/Anthropology; Educational Sciences; Economics; and Philosophy – Political Science – Sociology. This is a rare and remarkable achievement for such a young journal from a private university.
Available at https://jsrd.thanhdo.edu.vn, the Journal has published 11 issues since its first release in September 2022, featuring research with strong academic value and real-world relevance. Its articles have attracted nearly 40,000 views from readers in over 100 countries and territories, an impressive result that reflects a strategic and methodical development approach, the dedicated efforts of the Editorial Board, and the direct leadership of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phan Thi Thanh Thao, President of Thanh Do University and Chairwoman of the Editorial Board.
Applying technology and AI in editorial operations – a pioneering step
Not only committed to improving content quality, the Journal of Scientific Research and Development also pioneers comprehensive digital transformation, aiming to build a modern, transparent, and standardized publishing process. From its first issue, the Journal adopted the Open Journal Systems (OJS) – an advanced platform that enables professional, internationally standardized submission, review, and publication workflows.
The Journal of Scientific Research and Development is among the few academic units in Vietnam applying artificial intelligence (AI) across multiple stages of the editorial process. Tools like Turnitin are used for plagiarism checks, Mendeley for reference formatting, and a rigorous double-blind peer review process is enforced. Each article is also assigned a DOI via CrossRef. These efforts are steadily aligning the Journal with international standards and laying the groundwork for becoming a fully licensed e-Journal.
Currently, over 30% of the Editorial Board consists of international scholars or researchers affiliated with leading universities and institutes worldwide. The Journal also upholds the principle that no more than 50% of articles per issue come from internal authors, complying with the State Council of Professors’ regulations, thereby ensuring objectivity, academic integrity, and global engagement in its publishing practices.
Orientation for Growth – Toward Internationalization
In the coming period, the Journal of Scientific Research and Development will continue to enhance its academic quality and reach. The Journal aims to expand the number of recognized disciplinary and interdisciplinary Professorial Councils that evaluate its publications, while also strengthening its network of international collaborators. Promoting bilingual research articles is a key direction to support global integration and knowledge dissemination.
Notably, the launch of the official e-Journal, along with an open access policy, is a strategic move to encourage broader, fairer, and more transparent sharing of research outcomes.
The Journal of Scientific Research and Development encourages students to develop academic thinking and engage with international research standards from an early stage.
The Journal maintains a clear academic identity: no advertising, no display of authors’ titles or degrees, and strict adherence to content quality and formatting based on APA standards. With a mission to serve academia and contribute to community development, the Journal provides a space for research exchange and collaboration among scholars in Vietnam and abroad.
