THANH DO UNIVERSITY ESTABLISHES THE NGO XUAN DO POSTDOC FELLOWSHIP FOUNDATION

Thanh Do University has recently announced a resolution to establish the Ngo Xuan Do Postdoc Fellowship Foundation, in honor of and in gratitude for the tremendous contributions of Professor Ngo Xuan Do to the nation’s education and science and technology sectors. The initiative also aligns with the implementation of Resolution 57/NQ-TW on breakthrough development in science, technology, innovation, and national digital transformation, issued by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

Over more than 60 years dedicated to education, People’s Teacher Ngo Xuan Do (1941–2024) left a profound mark both as an educator and an education administrator. He played a pivotal role in transforming Hanoi Mechanical High School I into Hanoi College of Industry and later contributed to the development of Thanh Do University. Even after retiring in 2004, he continued to pursue his vision and laid the foundation for the establishment of Thanh Do University – one of the country’s first private universities.

On December 27, 2024, Professor Ngo Xuan Do passed away, leaving deep sorrow among his family, colleagues, and countless generations of students. His name and character remain a shining example of lifelong learning, innovation, and unwavering dedication to the noble mission of education.

The Ngo Xuan Do Postdoc Fellowship Foundation was established as a way to realize the late teacher’s aspiration: “To continue contributing to education and scientific research.” It also represents a key component of Thanh Do University’s strategy to develop research and promote international integration on the occasion of its 20th anniversary. At the same time, it contributes to the implementation of Resolution 57-NQ/TW on breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation, and national digital transformation, issued by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

The program targets scientists currently working at Thanh Do University or other institutions collaborating with the university’s faculty, staff, and researchers. Eligible applicants must hold a doctoral degree and have research directions aligned with the university’s training fields or priority areas such as digital transformation, artificial intelligence, educational innovation, and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

During the 2025–2029 period, the program’s total funding will reach VND 5 billion, with 10–15 fellowships expected to be awarded each year. Each project will receive support ranging from VND 50 million to VND 750 million, depending on the scale and nature of the proposal. In addition to fundamental research outputs such as scientific articles and monographs, the program also funds practical application products, including inventions, textbooks, and training systems. Project duration ranges from a minimum of 12 months to a maximum of 36 months, with the possibility of a single extension of up to 12 months.

Research proposals will be evaluated in two stages: independent expert review and assessment by a selection committee established by Thanh Do University. The committee will meet quarterly to review and approve funded projects based on the researcher’s capabilities, novelty, creativity, applicability of the proposed work, and alignment with the program’s objectives. The Institution for Research on Education and Knowledge Transfer (REK Institute) is responsible for the direct management and administration of the program.

The establishment of the Ngo Xuan Do Postdoc Fellowship Foundation is not only a profound tribute to a dedicated educator but also a long-term commitment of Thanh Do University to its mission of advancing education, science, and innovation. The foundation will serve as a solid platform for the university to continue developing academic talent and expanding both domestic and international collaborations
