On the morning of June 15, Thanh Do University successfully organized the 2025 Chinese Speech Contest, receiving enthusiastic participation from students, especially those majoring in Chinese Language.
More than just a language competition, the event served as an educational platform that promoted people-to-people diplomacy and inspired a strong spirit of international integration among Vietnamese students.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dao Thi Ai Thi, Vice President of Thanh Do University, delivered the opening remarks, emphasizing this year’s theme: “Enduring Friendship – Youth for the Future.” The theme underscored the crucial role of young people in nurturing and advancing the Vietnam–China partnership—an increasingly significant dynamic in the current landscape of cultural and educational exchange between the two nations.
A total of 11 contestants from Thanh Do University and Thuy Loi University took part in three rounds of competition: self-introduction, thematic speech, and talent performance. The judging panel included experts and lecturers in Chinese language and cultural studies:
Mr. Zhou Lai, representing the business sector and a member of the jury, praised the contest’s organization and the impressive performances of the students, highlighting the meaningful connection between education and cultural exchange.
The contest began with the self-introduction round, where each contestant introduced themselves in Chinese, shared personal interests, and explained their motivation for participating. Several students brought a refreshing twist to their presentations by incorporating humor, poetry, or storytelling, making this segment engaging and expressive.
In the thematic speech round—the core of the competition—students delivered 5-minute speeches on topics related to the Vietnam–China relationship. They were evaluated on clarity of ideas, coherence, logic, supporting evidence, and the ability to convey a constructive message. Many speeches demonstrated a high level of social awareness and maturity, addressing themes such as educational exchange, the role of media and technology in cultural connectivity, and the importance of mutual understanding in sustaining long-term friendship.
The final round—talent performance—brought vibrant energy and creativity to the stage. Contestants showcased diverse talents tied to Chinese language and culture, including singing, traditional dance, storytelling, bilingual hosting, dramatic performance, martial arts, and playing traditional musical instruments. These acts reflected not only linguistic skill but also deep cultural immersion. One student sang a traditional Chinese folk song with a fluent and emotionally resonant introduction, while another presented a bilingual English–Chinese emceeing act with remarkable professionalism.
The judging panel not only provided fair evaluations but also shared insightful feedback and professional encouragement, helping students to grow in both confidence and competence.
For many contestants, this event was more than a competition—it marked a meaningful step in their personal and professional journey. It offered an opportunity to refine public speaking skills, cultural understanding, and performance under pressure—preparing them for careers in language, education, diplomacy, or international cooperation.
A special highlight of the contest was the grand prize: a fully funded opportunity to attend the 2025 Summer Camp at Guangxi University for Nationalities, China—awarded to the top-performing contestant who demonstrated both linguistic excellence and a strong spirit of international integration.
